Business Description

A.C Hydro turbine Enterprises is business located in Kericho County. The business is involved in the fabrication and installation of water pumps using local materials. The business started in the year 2005 by Andrew Chirchir who wants his community not to experience water problems any more.

37% of Kenyans still rely on unimproved water sources, such as shallow wells and rivers. Only 9 out of 55 public water service providers in Kenya provide continuous water supply, leaving people to find their own ways of searching for appropriate solution. The challenge are especially evident in the rural areas, leading to serious economic challenges as some have had to use extra money to purchase the commodity from water vendors. Money which would have been spent on other activities like buying food and health services.

Hydro-turbine Water Pump set harnesses hydraulic power to pump water from local rivers and streams to elevated points of Keben village in Kericho County. This initiative has ensured that there is an even distribution of clean water to at least 200 Households and various institutions of the surrounding community. The project aims to address water scarcity in the area while giving the community an ample opportunity to effectively utilize and conserve water.

The hydro-turbine water pump set project involves the fabrication and installation of the pump set at selected river or stream points that will harness hydraulic power to pump water to elevated points. Water scarcity in Kenya has been an issue for decades, as only a small percentage of the country’s land is optimal for agriculture, and the year-round climate is predominantly not very favourable. Kenya’s natural water resources also do not provide an equitable delivery of water to the various regions of the country and the country’s water basins do not reach an equitable area of the country. This leaves most of the population without any fresh water. In Kericho County in general and Belgut Sub County in particular, water problem is real especially during the dry spell.

Competitive Landscape

Research findings indicate that there is no supply in some areas due to the ballooning electricity bill that renders it uneconomical to operate. A.C Hydro-Tech Enterprise aims at addressing such challenges right from grassroots. Due to eco-friendliness and cost effective nature of the technology, most residents will then have access to clean water, piped to their houses.

Business Model and Distribution Channels

A.C Hydro-Tech Enterprise company targets locals who include area residents, Institutions which include: schools, hospitals, churches and business organizations, and Commercial famers for irrigation purposes.
