Green Innovations Awards (GIA) Phase IV
Project Description The NETFUND GIA is an annual flagship climate action award programme that recognize and supports best practices and innovative green business initiatives by individuals, CSO’s, learning institutions (particularly those on the bottom of the pyramid) in the areas of; Air pollution control, Waste Management, climate change, attainment of 10% tree cover, environmental education and awareness. In addition, the award recognizes Counties based on their climate change action plans. With the vision of creating “an environmentally responsible and motivated society embracing best practices for a clean, healthy and productive environment”, the objectives of the NETFUND’s GIA program are to “enhance and promote public awareness and enabling environment on and around green growth initiatives in Kenya. To date, NETFUND has successfully implemented three phases of the award programme and is currently implementing the fourth cycle which was launched on 10th March 2020. The project is aligned, and contributes to, the following SDGs: 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 11, 12, and 13. It is also aligned to the priority sectors of the key MEAs; UNFCCC, BIODIVERSITY, Drought. Further, it helps realize the development agenda set out under the “Social and Economic Pillar” of the Kenyan Vision 2030 and the BIG 4 agenda.
